Sage Gateshead

15 January 2016

American singer-songwriter Patty Griffin calls in at the Sage Gateshead on 16 January at the start of her 52-date 2016 tour. Showcasing her new album ‘Servant of Love’, Griffin, whose romance with Robert Plant is now over, uses the songs on the new record to explore humanity’s connection with nature along with its place in society and time.

A Grammy winner for her 2010 gospel album Downtown Church’ and Americana Album of the Year winner for ‘Children Running Through’ in 2007 – when she also took the Best Artist accolade – Patti’s pedigree is undoubted. Judge for yourself whether ‘Servant of Love’ is likely to add to her reputation.

Increasingly jazz-influenced in addition to the folk, blues and rock influences that made albums such as ‘Flaming Red’ so well received, Griffin continues to grow as an artist.

With stellar names including Joan Baez, Bette Midler, Linda Ronstadt, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Beth Nielsen-Chapman and The Dixie Chicks having recorded her songs, Patti Griffin is well worth seeing and has moved on substantially since I last saw her performing in a Tyneside church.

Tickets are £21.50 & £24.50 (including a £2 handling fee).

Marti Pellow

Marti Pellow Supported by Philippa Hanna Sage Gateshead 24 March 2017 There’s nothing mysterious about Marti Pellow despite ‘Mysterious’ being the name of the tour he stopped off with at Sage Gateshead along with his nine-piece band. With a packed audience who had grown up with the former ‘Wet Wet Wet’ front-man, Pellow’s fun-infected fusion rolled along at a steady pace, punctuated by the occasional number slow enough to persuade some of his adoring legions to momentarily sit...
