Calling budding North East singing stars – the national music competition Open Mic UK is holding an audition at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House on 6 September.

It is one of 15 regional auditions across the UK searching for the best singers, singer songwriters, rappers and vocal groups.

The contest is run by Future Music, the company behind the discovery of artists such as Luke Friend and Karen Hardy (who have both had chart success this year), Jacob Banks, Warner Music’s Birdy, Columbia Record’s Lucy Spraggan, Union J’s Jaymi Hensley andJahmene Douglas, who are both now signed to Sony Music.

There will be thousands of pounds worth of competition prizes up for grabs along the way including recording studio time and music development classes. The overall winner will receive a comprehensive winner’s package as well as a main prize of £5,000 in cash to spend as they wish on the development of their act.
